GST Network has asked taxpayers to plan well in time for filing returns and uploading invoices and advised them to avoid last minute rush.
GST Network said that 20.05 lakh GSTR-3B returns were submitted as on April 20. This was the last date for submission of tax returns for March sales. Filing of such a large number of returns has made taxpayers wait on the GST system and inconvenienced some.
Further, about 45 per cent of the returns filed on April 20 were either nil returns or returns where no tax was paid in cash. In such a situation, the GST system issued an advisory saying that taxpayers are advised to make a disciplined plan for filing returns and avoid reporting invoices of previous periods in one go, as this may increase the waiting period on the GST system. .
The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) manages the technology associated with the indirect tax regime. At present, there are more than 1.39 crore taxpayers registered under GST. GSTN said that it has upgraded its infrastructure over time. However, it is observed that some taxpayers faced difficulty in filing GSTR-3B for March on 20th April, 2023. She said the major reason for this was a large number of taxpayers trying to file GSTR-3B returns in the afternoon on the last day.
GSTN further said that taxpayers having ‘Nil’ return can file it earlier and need not wait for the last day to file GSTR-3B.
